- Miguel was awarded the 2002 AL MVP as he set
career
highs in BA (.308), HR (34), RBI (131), Hits (204) and
Runs (108) while leading the A's to the AL West crown.
- In 2002, Miguel was the only AL player to
finish in
the top ten for BA, Hits, HR, RBI, Runs, Total Bases
and Times on Base.
- Miguel has had 25+ HR, 105+ RBI and 95+ Runs
each season from 2000-03.
- In the stretch run of 2002, the A's put
together a
remarkable 20-game winning streak. Miguel provided
the game-winning hit in both the 18th and 19th wins of that streak. Both hits came in the bottom of the 9th
inning; the first being a 3-run HR and the other a
bases-loaded single.
- In September of 2001, Miguel hit for the
cycle with
the last piece of the feat coming in the form of a
Grand Slam.
- Miguel became only the 3rd player from the
Dominican
Republic to win an MVP award. Previous to Miguel, the last to do it was Sammy Sosa in 1998.
