- In 2001, Bret finished third in the voting
for AL
MVP, behind teammate Ichiro Suzuki and
Jason Giambi.
- Bret won the NL Gold Glove for 2B in 1998
and the AL
Gold Glove for 2B in 2002. He is the only second
baseman in ML history to win the award in both
leagues.
- Bret became the first-ever third-generation
major
league player when the Mariners called him up in 1992.
His father, Bob Boone, and his grandfather, Ray
Boone, were also major leaguers.
- Bret is a three-time All-Star (1998, 2001,
2003). In
2001, the fans voted him as the starting second
baseman for the AL squad.
- In 1997, Bret set the ML record for fielding
percentage by a second baseman. He made only 2 errors in 139 games.
- Bret had a monster 2001 campaign, finishing
in the AL
top five in BA (4th), Hits (2nd), Runs (2nd), RBI
(1st), Total Bases (2nd) and Extra-Base Hits (5th).
He was the only player to accomplish this.
- Bret has batted .300+ in four postseason
series.
For the Braves in 1999, Bret batted .474 (9-19) in the
NLDS and .538 (7-13) in the World Series against the
Yankees.
- Bret topped the 20-HR mark for the first
time in
1998, joining Joe Morgan as the only Reds' second
basemen to do so.
- On October 20, 2001, Bret tied the ALCS
single-game
record by recording 5 RBI against the Yankees.
