Did You Know?
- In what turned out to be controversial,
Andruw signed with the Braves organization in July of 1993 at the tender age
of 15.
- Andruw is the youngest player to ever jack a
homer in the playoffs, breaking Hall-of-Famer Mickey Mantle's record, on October
17, 1996 against St. Louis in the NLCS.
- On October 20, 1996 Andruw became the
youngest player ever to go deep in his first two World Series at bats at none
other than Yankee Stadium. He became only the 2nd player ever to homer in his
first 2 Fall Classic at bats.
- Andruw was the 6th player ever to jack a
homer into the Upper Deck in Veterans Stadium in
Philadelphia.
- Andruw always makes it look so effortless in
the field. It might be because he is well rested. He claims to sleep 12
hours a day everyday.
- Andruw is the 5th youngest player to reach
100 career homers. The only active player that did this before him was Alex
Rodriguez.
- Andruw is the youngest player ever to have
20 homers and 20 stolen bases in a single season. He achieved this milestone
in his 2nd full big league season in 1998 with 31 bombs and 27 steals.
- Andruw started all 162 games in the 1999
season becoming only the 3rd Brave ever and the last since Dale Murphy.
- Andruw stamped his name on the baseball
landscape in 2000 with then career highs in average (.303), homers (36), RBIs
(104), doubles (36), and his first of 3 All-Star appearances, the others
coming in 2002 and 2003.
- Andruw is a 6-time and counting Gold Glove
winner (1998-2003) and has been mentioned as being the best defensive centerfielder ever.
