Julius Erving, simply known as 'Dr. J', played 11 seasons with the Philadelphia 76ers.
Erving was the first player to popularize the slam dunk and this brought new meaning 'to playing above the rim'.
The Doctor was named to eleven NBA All-Star teams and named MVP of the All-Star game twice. Erving as selected to the First Team All-NBA five times as well as garnering league MVP honors in 1981.
In 1983, The Doctor led the Sixers to the NBA championship over the Los Angeles Lakers, 4-0.
Julius Erving was elected to the Basketball
Hall of Fame in 1993 as well as being voted one of the 50 greatest players in
NBA history.
